Our Chief Nudl, Shak, has a background within the music industry – his first job was as a DJ…so how did Nudl happen?

Although originally from the North East, Shak was living in the Canaries, when his eldest daughter suddenly became very ill.

At the age of two, she was developing very quickly, however she started to struggle with her mobility and no one knew why.

After the hypochondriac Googled the illness, Shak found a condition and relayed this information to the doctors asking for some assistance, and to see if it was in fact what he suspected his daughter was suffering from.

After several tests in Spain, the family was back in the North East at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital – a move they made to be able to access the correct research and treatment.

The data that she has been able to help create in the research, is now being used to help save COVID-19 victims during the pandemic. Shak knew he needed something to keep him close to home and his daughter, so he could spend valuable time with her. Marrying that with a passion for the North East and helping businesses thrive, Nudl was created, then launched in March 2021.

With over 20 years’ experience working to support businesses with grants, Shak wanted to put the fun into funding and help businesses with the support they need to grow.

Since launching Nudl, Shak has helped business to create 130 jobs within the Tees Valley alone, working with a diverse range of sectors, generating over £2.3m in investment value and £1.3m of grant funding.

Shak has ambitious plans for the next five years, including adding further services to the firm’s offering.
